Spain- Nerja and Estepona

11th of June 2022 we landed in Malaga. The main goal was the wedding in Ubeda, but we decided to spend a few days on a road trip in Andalusia. It was my first visit to Spain and I was super excited about it. Once picked up our German car (VW) and we hit the road.

Nerja

The first destination was Nerja. It’s a small town on the East, around 50 min drive from Malaga. Nerja welcomed us with sun and blue sky, what else you can dream of on vacation?

We started the visit at The Balcón de Europa, one of the most impressive attractions in the city. It’s a wonderful promenade with spectacular panoramic views of the Mediterranean coastline. It become famous because of King Alfonso XII and his statue can be found at the far end.

There is a local urban legend that if you stand in the central circle of the star at the end of the Balcón de Europa and make a wish then your wish will come true.

The city is beautiful with amazing small restaurants.

Looking for good food we ended up in a small bar El Pulguilla. Food was freshly made, octopus (el pulpo), sardines, and calamari were delicious.

After lunch. we start the drive through Cost Del Sol shore to our next destination Estepona.

Estepona

Estepona is a small city on the Costa del Sol coast.
White houses with hundreds of flowerpots create a welcoming atmosphere.

We started exploring the Estepona by swimming in the ocean. The water was warm but a bit wavy, which wasn’t fortunate for me, and ended up with a few bruises. But as we say in Polish, it will heal before the wedding (“Do wesela się zagoi”) as the wedding was in 6 days.

After “a swim” in the ocean was time for dinner. We’ve been recommended to visit the restaurant next door “ALMA de Miguel”. Amazing, delicious seafood, freshly caught fish. Heaven for food lovers.

Estepona was so vivid by night, people sipping Sangria in small restaurants around the Plaza de las Flores, orange, and palm trees make you feel the vacation mood.

Estepona keeps its Andalusian ambiance, with authentic fisherman origins. Definitely worth staying there and enjoying the Costa del Sol.

Our Next Stop was Gibraltar.
